Health and Safety
Never act lost even if you are
When you act or look lost you make yourself vulnerable and a potential target for thieves. If you are lost, ask a police officer or go into a shop and ask for directions. Another thing is to jump on a boda-boda motorcycle and have them take you there as they are most of the time well versed with the surrounding areas. Do not travel with your expensive jewelry Do not take expensive jewelry from you as this will be ripped off either your neck, wrists or any part of your body. And needless to say this will be very painful not to mention the shock that follows and ofcourse ofcourse – the loss of your treasured piece(s). It does not matter whether you are walking or even in the comfort of your own vehicle or a matatu (taxi) which may be in slow-moving traffic. There are lots of jewelry shops and craft centres in Uganda selling beautifully handcrafted pieces. One can make do with these for as long as they are in the country and even after they leave. Passports and return tickets Do not carry a passport on you. If anything, make a copy of it and leave it in a hotel safe. If you are travelling on safari, keep all such things in a small backpack that you can easily carry with you. Look after your money like it’s the last penny you have It is best to carry your money in the front pocket where you can put your hand over it rather than a back pocket where it can easily be stolen. Do not wear the various kinds of belted packs for money and valuables. Do not flash money, pull out what you need and pay, never carry large amounts with you. Keep money and any valuables in a hotel safe. |
