When to go to Uganda – weather or season
Though Uganda is a year round destination owing to its equatorial climate, the best time to visit is during its relatively drier seasons, primarily between December to March and June to September. December to March are the hottest months in Uganda, with temperatures escalating upto 29 degrees Celsius on some days. July to September, on the other hand, are regarded as the coldest months in the country. In addition to the favourable weather during these months, another feature making these months a good time to visit Uganda, is the ideal conditions and good sightings on gorilla trekking safaris in the region.
Though one can expect rainfall at any time of the year, there are two definite period of heavy rainfall, namely April to May and October to November. During these seasons camping, gorilla safari’s and other outdoor activities become difficult and movement is restricted owing to the poor road conditions during the rainy season. Thus whilst the rainfall may add to the beauty of the rain forests and landscape of the region, it also tends to make most travel plans uncertain, making these months a relatively off-tourist season in Uganda. Climate: Uganda is located along the equator but enjoys a mild equable climate due to its altitude and the cooling breezes from the mountains. The day temperature averages about 26°C and night temperatures are around 16°C. There are two distinct rainy seasons - the first is during the months of April to May and the second during the months of October to November. The dry seasons on the other hand occur between December to March and June to September. The mean annual rainfall varies from about 760 mm in the northeast to about 1,520 mm near Lake Victoria. |
